Initially developed to coincide with Rugby World Cup 2003, this project is made up of a range of cross-curriculum resources developed over several years and designed to teach life values to young Australian through the sport of Rugby.
As lead Instructional Designer and Writer, I consulted with the Australian Rugby Union Education Officers (plus additional IT, media, coaching and marketing divisions) to discuss strategies, determine the scope and format of the final resources as well as writing and developing content of each resource, managing additional Writers and reviewers and consulting with teachers, coaches, trainers and other subject matter experts.

The resources are available from Australian Rugby Union and include the initial EdRugby Online Educational Resource (lesson plans, interactive games, word puzzles and additional support for teachers), plus a range of additional resources designed to support the planning and implementation of a school Rugby tournament (Walla Challenge), lesson plans for senior Physical Education students and professional development of teachers.
EdRugby Online was the winner of the Australian Sports Commission Ausport Award – Junior Sport Category in 2004. See AusportAug2004 for details.
Winner of the Junior Sport Award — the Australian Rugby Union — was credited for promoting its national education program for schools, which creates fun, safe and challenging sport experiences for young Australians. By the end of 2003, EdRugby was delivered in more than 1000 schools, inspiring young players to embrace the sport’s values of pride, teamwork and tradition. It was a leading vehicle to showcase the game to young Australians during the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
